JAMES GASOWSKI
James Gasowski was born in San Francisco, Ca. in 1954. In 1972 he joined the military and while in the service decided he would become an artist. After the military he went back to California and started his education at San Francisco State University, then attended the Academy Of Art, San Francisco
Given an opportunity to move to Europe, he left school and moved to Kiel, Germany in 1980, where he began to paint and study art on his own. In Europe, after a profound and deeply spiritual experience he started to create a personal symbolic art. Over the course of the next ten years he traveled back and forth from Europe to California and New York developing and showing his art. In 1996 he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and then to Truth or Consequences, NM in 2008. He now lives in Sacramento, California.
Gasowski’s art has grown from the spiritual symbolism of his early work through geometrical and calligraphic mark making. His present work is an exploration of space, color, line, and texture. Gasowski's artwork is in private and public collections in the United States and Europe and has shown in Santa Fe at the Center for Contemporary Art, Gallery Zipp, Phil Space Gallery, at Decorazon Gallery in Dallas, and the Affordable Art Fair in NY, MiamiArt Fair Basel, and RedDot Art Fair in London. His work is part of the New Mexico State Capitol Collection in Santa Fe.
