My series BLOOMS IN THE TIME OF CORONA
began in early 2020 as a way for me to remove myself
from the news of the day, including the Covid/Corona daily horrors.
At that time I was also in the throes of being a nurse to
my now deceased husband. It was difficult; it was rewarding;
it was a passionate time in my life.
Finding flowers to bring more beauty into my days
was a gift. I brought supplies into our home as I could not
take time to be in my studio. Thus, so many small works.
For many of us artists, those small pieces are at least as challenging
as the larger ones. These blooms were not created to be
'pretty' but meaningful, thought provoking pieces.
This series ended soon after my husband/best friend died
in early 2021. Enjoy them with gratitude for life.

Artist’s Statement: “My work is often based in an energetic brush with abstract patterns of circles or dots, but sometimes they have representational elements to share the space. It is important that the viewer know that these pieces reflect emotions, ideas, dreams...that we all share. They are quite personal in their fashion. And if the viewer is looking for more than pure decoration, I’m there with them. Though, having a ‘beautiful’ painting or drawing is also important to me. I use titles to lead the viewer in my direction, but I wouldn’t dare to answer any questions in the work. They are all about ‘being’ and not about ‘the way'. I am a lover of the paint! Having worked with Nathan Oliveira was a highlight of my working career; he taught me not how to paint but made me think WHY I paint, and that intent and content is all. Heartfelt and true.”
