EMILE GRUPPE
Emile Gruppe- Born in Rochester, New York, Emile Gruppe became a renowned New England landscape and marine painter. In addition to being raised by an artistic father, he was also educated in art at The Hague in the Netherlands and in New York City at the National Academy of Design and The Arts Students League. Carlson, with whom he would later founded, in 1942, the Gruppe Summer School in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He made his permanent studio in Gloucester. His artistic career had begun in 1915, but was briefly interrupted in 1917 when he spent a year in the United States Navy. Gruppe's prolific career brought him many awards and memberships. His popular painting "Winter, Vermont," date and location unknown, won the Richard Mitton Award at the Jordan Marsh Exhibition in Boston in 1843

ELIAS RIVERA
1937-2019 Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Elias Rivera attended the School of Industrial Arts and the the Art Students League. During his years in New York, he refined his technique and remained dedicated to his ambitious interest: figurative painting. Through oil painting, Rivera documented urban life and the social agitation of the 1960s; his color palette reflecting the darkness and struggle he saw on the city streets.
In 1982, Rivera found his way to Santa Fe, where he met his future wife, painter Susan Contreras. In New Mexico, Rivera began painting the native populations – capturing bright clothing and a different kind of daily life. These bold, brightly colored compositions quickly established him as an internationally acclaimed painter.
Rivera began to travel to Guatemala, Mexico and Peru to paint the locals. He is well known for his Guatemala series, as well his New Mexican series, “Under the Portal.” His paintings are enticing and thought-provoking, traditional and modern, capturing human moments with his unique perception. His works have been exhibited at the New Mexico Museum of Art, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Albuquerque Museum, the Center for Contemporary Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and elsewhere

CAROL ANTHONY
Carol Anthony is a poetic artist who truly lives her art. Each of her words is carefully chosen; each posession carefully placed about her straw bale home. Through solitude and simplicity, Anthony paints images reflective of her own inner light and appreciation for beauty.
This came into our collection because Nolan needed to study her technique. So layered, so quiet, so beautiful.

BRIAN TRIPP
CA Native American painter and poet. An honored figure in his Northern California Karuk community, Brian Tripp uses his work to demonstrate his commitment to his community and Native American culture, and his devotional interest in giving life to traditions and history.
The drawings and small paintings provide new looks at imagery familiar to the artist and Native American tradition: motifs from basket work, arrowheads, ceremonial objects and Karuk regalia – symbols passed down for generations. Using paint, foil, glass, found objects and natural materials, Tripp invigorates the imagery with the vibrant color and the immediacy of formal geometry. His contemporary versions pay homage to the inherent power of images long in use.
Brian Tripp has maintained his creative practice and exhibited his art for over 30 years. His work has been exhibited at the New Museum, New York; Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento; Oakland Museum of California and New York’s Museum of Art and Design.
His works are in the permanent collections of the Berkeley Art Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Heard Museum, Morris Graves Museum of Art, The Oakland Museum of California and Washington State Museum among others.
"Through my body flows blood of singers and dancers, makers of dance regalia, carvers and basket makers, gatherers, hunters, and fishermen, all believers in the traditional religion and the old way. I know I am these people and I have done all those things before, many, many, years ago."
